My fellow people of the United States of America:
Holy fucking shit we did it.
These are tears of joy and I make no apologies. We will make no apologies. The 75 million people who registered to vote for the first time need make no apologies. The duopoly disenfranchised them decades ago. Now, the people have voted for something other than the “lesser of two evils”.
For universal healthcare.
For a debt jubilee.
For climate justice and a no-bullshit real Green New Deal.
We voted for change we can all feel. For helping each other. For mutualism. For a society. And for making it happen in the first 100 days of our new administration.
We know it can be done. We’ve seen blank checks for endless wars. We’ve seen bountiful bailouts for those “too big to fail”.
The movement that put this party in office is politically educated and activated. I’m only here because of them, and they know it. If I don’t deliver or try to sell out, I will get primaried. That’s called an accountability mechanism. The old parties might want to look into it.
In the past, newly-elected Democratic and Republican presidents have called for unity and healing of divisions. I do not. I cannot paper over our nation’s polarization with poetry. What I can do—what we will do—is fix the big structural problems that demagogues use to divide us.
Let’s get everyone healthy and debt-free. Then we’ll see how divided we are.
Thank you all. Let’s enjoy this moment, and then get to work on our country.
Good night.
